Anti Aging Tips and Tricks-
Anti Aging Tips and tricks in how to keep your skin from not only looking younger but acting younger by using these anti aging tips and tricks .
These quick daily steps can help your skins texture improve, give you a more even toned glow, and help keep your skin hydrated.
BEST time to apply Skin Care Products
Best Time to Apply Skin Care Products
Best time to apply skin care products according some clinical studies depends on what type of skin care product it is.
Just like our bodies follow a Circadian rhythm of a 24 hour cycle that signal when we sleep, rise, and eat, our skin also follows a circadian rhythm .
The Stratum Corneum (top layer of the skin) also follows and responds to circadian rhythm changes.
The best time to apply skin care products for Hydration is at night.
Trans Epidermal Water Loss , otherwise known as TEWL (increase later in the afternoon)and skin permeability increases at night.
The best time to apply topical skin medications: If you are using a topical skin medication which includes products such as Retin A, Hydroquinone, Tretinoin, Epiduo or any other topical skin medication, the best time to apply topical skin medications BOTH lipophilic and hydrophilic is at night, this also include lidocaine (topical numbing agent).
Studies have showed that the best time for maximum absorption (as if any of us are awake at this time) is 4 AM.
This is post menopausal women or people with very dry skin will wake up to find their skin feeling dry even after applying heavier creams earlier in the evening.
People with oily skin may find their skin extra oily if the skin is dehydrated in the morning.
Applying products for oily skin:
The best time to apply skin care products for oily skin may be during the day. Although skin absorption slows down during the daylight, sebum production is the lowest at 4 am and the highest sebum activity is mid day.
According to the study, this is not believed to be linked to hormone production or skin temperature.
When to apply skin care products for oily skin:
The best time to apply skin care products for sensitive skin is the late afternoon into the evening.
I have been treating clients with acne, hyperpigmentation, and other skin conditions for over 13 years and I always tried to schedule my clients who had rosacea, eczema or sensitive skin in the late afternoon or evening (I was not always successful) .
Circadian rhythms affect blood flow rate. The skins temperature peaks in the late afternoon and into the evening. This is why it is common for those with atopic dermatitis, eczema, or itchy skin to experience an increase in inflammation and/or itchiness during this time.
Best Time to apply Anti Aging Skin Care Products:
The best time to apply anti aging skin care products is at night. The repair of DNA damage to skin cells from the sun peaks at night.
A study found that the sun exposure continued to damage DNA in skin for up to 3 hours AFTER sun exposure. They called this the “Dark Pathway”.
DNA repair activity was higher in the very early morning hours. This is when the body does its best work to repair the damage.
When is the best time to apply lightening skin care products for Hyperpigmentation:
The best time to apply lightening skin care products to treat hyperpigmentation such as age spots and/or melasma is at night.
For melanocyte, the cells that create the melanin, DNA damage happened in the absence of light.
The study found the DNA damage was less in the morning than later in the day.
However, OPTIMAL DNA repair comes with optimal sleep. There will be an upcoming video and post for this topic.
Studies also showed that when a supplement containing Vitamin D was taken, the patient showed less redness and less sunburn risk.
According to some studies, 40% of the US population is deficient in Vitamin D and over 50% of the global population is deficient in Vitamin D. Vitamin D plays a significant role in reducing inflammation in the body as well as the skin . Most of the vitamin D (approximately 80%) needs to be metabolized in the skin, so if you have dark skin, sensitive skin or mature skin, your your skin metabolizes Vitamin D differently.
Vitamin D and Your Skin (Dark, Aging, or Sensitive)
The circadian rhythm has an influence on DNA repair, skin cancer, how fast the skin heals and skin disease.
If you have mature skin or namely, post menopausal skin, then you may not only need MORE of Vitamin D but you may need LESS of this to prevent rapid aging of the skin.
Rapid Aging After Menopause: Anti Aging Skin Care for 50s
For women, estrogen stimulates collagen production to give the skin a more fuller, plumper look. Many women are turning to the anti wrinkle gel patches which has shown to smooth out wrinkles when used regularly.
However, clinical studies have shown that when these silicone gel patches were used for hypertrophic scars, they reduced collagen production to smooth out the scars.
So , my question is, if they reduce collagen production to smooth out hypertrophic scars, are they reducing collagen production around the wrinkles , which are also scars but a scar that is a crease in the skin?
Anti Wrinkle Patches Do they WORK?
Please stay tuned for our next post regarding how optimal sleep can help heal and revitalize our skin in a way that no skin care product can.

Which Mushrooms are Good for Skin
Which Mushrooms are Good for Skin
\
Which Mushrooms are good for skin: One of the highest forms of vitamin D that you can get from a plant source is from mushrooms (known as Vitamin D2 or Ergocalciferol). Some of the mushrooms that are good for skin are: shitake, maitake Buna Shimeji (Beech) and Reishi.
You can take the mushroom as an extract, a vitamin D supplement or eat the real thing. There are so many different types of mushrooms but I am focusing more on Japanese mushrooms to narrow it down. I am also narrowing down the list of Japanese mushroom that are:
-easier to find/shop for
-easiest to cook in a variety of recipes
-that were also used in clinical studies for anti aging, hydration, skin brightening and inflammation.
Which Mushrooms are good for skin: Shitake Mushrooms:
Shitake mushrooms have been studied for its anti inflammatory effects. Shitake mushrooms are also known to be antiallergenic, anti mircrobial and an antihistamine.
You can eat them fresh, dried or cooked. However, some people who have eaten them raw or undercooked have developed Flagellate dermatitis. This is a rash that looks like you have been whipped. Rashes that appear to have red slashes or what appears to be scratches can appear on the skin.
Shitake mushrooms also contain kojic acid which helps brighten the skin and helps reduce melanin production on the skins surface.
Shitake mushrooms are used widely in Asian recipes and dried shitake mushrooms are typically used for stock or a base for many soups.
You can also get Shitake Mushroom supplements that are in vegan capsules . They are concentrated extracts from NON- GMO, ORGANIC Shitake mushrooms
Shitake Mushroom for Immune boosting and anti inflammation
How to Increase Vitamin D in Mushrooms
Most commercially grown mushrooms lack Vitamin D. There was a clinical study that was done using shitake mushrooms, button mushrooms and oyster mushrooms.
To increase the vitamin D levels in mushrooms, mushrooms were picked and exposed to a UV light lamp.
The study found that when the mushrooms were exposed to a UV B lamp for an extended period of time, that the precursor to vitamin D (ergosterol) would convert to Vitamin D.
The common white button mushroom sold in the grocery store in the states and most commercially grown mushrooms in the:
-US
-Canada
-UK
-Australia
New Zealand
-Europe
are grown in the DARK so the content of Vitamin D2 in button mushroom is commonly reported less than 1 microgram.
This is especially important since :
-40% of the US population is deficient in Vitamin D
-50% of the GLOBAL population is Vitamin D deficient
Mushroom Vegan Capsule (Immune, Memory booster, Liver support)
Maitake Mushrooms:
Maitake mushrooms (dancing mushrooms) or otherwise known as “hen of the woods” . This is because it looks similar to the back of a fan like hens tail.
Maitake mushrooms are high in Vitamin C and antioxidants and rich in polysaccharides. Clinical studies have shown immune boosting and anti tumor properties.
Vitamin D fraction has a strong effect on the immune system. It also has beta glucans which helps with inflammation and hydration for the skin as well as beneficial for health.
Buna Shimeji Beech Mushrooms:
are known to be higher in antioxidants and a powerful antioxidant Selenium that helps neutralize free radicals. They are also rich in B vitamins that are directly related to the skin health such as:
-Pantothenic Acid (Vit B5) -aids in healing the skin faster , especially acne lesions
-Riboflavin (Vit B2) aids in skin cell turnover , maintaining collagen, and skin healing
-Niacin (Vit B3) helps with pigmentation and inflammation
It is also beneficial for the skin because it also has beta glucans and copper (key to collagen production).
Reishi Mushrooms
have high levels of beta glucan which can help reduce inflammation and hydrate the skin.
Triterpenes-special group of sugars that help boost the immune system and a precursor to steroids to help reduce inflammation. It helps boost the skins natural ability to retain moisture , help soothe and plump dry skin.
Overall, these mushrooms have:
-anti inflammatory
-antimicrobial
-antihistamine
-antiallergenic
properties that helps jump start and boost the immune system . These mushroom are some of the best for skin because it promotes skin healing and slows aging of the skin and body.
Mushrooms are considered to be superfoods that help the skin and body slow down aging .

Best Skin Tightening Machine for Home Use Myolift Mini vs Myolift QT
Best Skin Tightening Machine for Home Use Myolift Mini vs Myolift QT:
Best skin tightening machine for home use: Myolift Mini vs Myolift QT should be effective and yet still easy to use.
Most skin tightening machines for home use may include the use of light (red, yellow, blue, green, etc) and or heat. The problem is that if you have sensitive skin or hyperpigmentation especially for darker skin types, this could lead to an increase of more hyperpigmentation.
The Myolift microcurrent machine uses 2 different wavelengths to increase the ATP in the cells to help regenerate the skin to help tighten the skin, lighten up age spots, and treat fine lines and wrinkles.
This Myolift brand was created by the 7E Wellness company. They have several different models.
Myolift Mini vs Myolift QT:
The Myolift Mini Pro was specifically designed for the esthetician. Its small lightweight base is great for those who work in a small space and may not have a lot of counter room to work on. It is also great for those who work mobile and have to travel from location to location.
The Myolift Mini Pro has two probes to work with on the face, whereas, the Myolift QT can be used with only one hand.
The benefit of the Myolift Mini is that with the two probes, you can easily manipulate the probes to get the full length of the facial muscle (see video for visible demonstration).
How to Use the Myolift Mini:
The Myolift Mini may be better for the Licensed Esthetician or Licensed PRO because in order to use the Myolift mini, you need to memorize the steps of each movement that corresponds with the facial muscle if you are working on your client.
The Myolift mini may be better for the pro who is used to working with both hands and working on another persons face . Whereas, the non professional consumer may find the steps too confusing or overwhelming without additional assistance.
If you still choose to use the Myolift mini, it may take a while to get movements down.
The Myolift mini has a few buttons that control the intensity of the wavelengths and the amount of time . It also has buttons for the 2 different modes (Educate -Lifting and firming or Erase- for fine lines and wrinkles).
A full face protocol that is set on each mode will take about a total of 40 minutes (20 minutes on each setting).
Please watch Botox Alternatives to understand how the microcurrent works to tighten the skin.
Myolift Mini Product Review-Botox Alternatives
Here is a video that show a variety of clients that I used it on.
The clients age ranged from mid 20s- mid 50s.
The skin conditions addressed were:
-Dark circles under eyes
-hyperpigmentation
-Sagging skin
-Fine lines and wrinkles
-Acne
Anti Aging Tip: Botox Alternatives for Fine lines and Wrinkles, Sagging Skin and Hyperpigmentation
How to use the Myolift QT:
The Myolift QT was specifically designed to be a Skin Tightening Machine for home use.
To me, this is the best skin tightening machine for home use for several reasons:
First, unlike the Myolift Mini, it can be held in one hand and there is no additional apparatus that it is connected to.
The only thing that the Myolift QT is connected to is your smart phone via bluetooth to work with the FREE APP .
The Myolift QT has an app that has a video that you can follow along step by step in how to use the Myolift QT correctly.
The Myolift QT app even has short focused treatments that focus on eyes, neck, jowls, full face, and you can even create your own treatment.
Unlike most skin tightening machines for home use, the app shows if you have actual conductivity. It also has a countdown timer to let you know when you have finished the treatment.
As far as the Myolift Mini vs the Myolift QT skin tightening machine for home use, the Myolift QT is almost foolproof.
Both the Myolift Mini and the Myolift QT have the eye and lip mask that you can attach to the machine for treatment without hands. The Myolift QT also has the forehead mask. You can also purchase the conductivity gloves to go with both the machines.

Vitamin F for SKIN
Vitamin F for SKIN:
Vitamin F for skin. The F in vitamin F stands for “Fat” or essential fatty acids. This also is known as lipids and are essential in having healthy skin.
Vitamin F is made up two essential fatty acids.
One is Alpha Linolenic acid (ALA) which is rich in Omega-3 fatty acid and the other is Linoleic acid (LA) which is rich in omega 6 fatty acid. You need both to help create and build healthy skin.
Vitamin F for Fine Lines and Wrinkles:
This may be one of the reasons you may be experiencing perpetually dry cracked skin. Your skin may be lacking in essential fatty acids otherwise known as Vitamin F whether it may be due to diet , over exfoliation and or extremely dry conditions such as winter and being in very dry air caused by the heater.
Wrinkles are basically the scarring of the skin where it has lost its elasticity and break down of collagen so the repeated folding and crinkling of the skin when you frown, smile, laugh or any other repeated facial expressions can eventually lead to the fine lines and wrinkles.
Vitamin F helps keep the skin supple and moisturized, which can help prevent injury to the skin.
Vitamin F Diet to prevent Aging of the Skin:
Clinical studies have shown that eating a diet higher in these essential fatty acids such as the Linoleic and Alpha Linoleic acid can help reduce inflammation of the skin while also aiding in building up skin cell membranes needed for healthy skin.
Here are some foods that are rich in Vitamin F:
-“Fishy Fish” such as salmon, tuna, Mackerel and shellfish
Seeds such as:
-Sesame
-Flax
-Chia
-Pumpkin
-Sunflower
and nuts such as walnut
Oils such as:
-Canola
-Hemp
-Soy
Leafy greens are also included in this .
Vitamin F Supplements:
Some people are vegan or they don’t prefer fish or any type of seafood. There are supplements that contain the Omega 3 fish oil .
This particular one has one of the most powerful antioxidants known as Astaxanthin. It is 6000x more powerful than vitamin C and because it comes from micro algae , the antioxidant benefits actually increase when exposed to blue and red rays from the UV rays. (sources are below) , UNLIKE Vitamin C which breaks down when exposed to heat, air and light.
It is called DHA OMEGA 3 ULTRA.
VEGAN OPTION: The following option is for people who prefer not to get their essential fatty acids from fish, this one comes from plant based algae oil. This is called Vegan-Omega 3.
In 2008, a clinical study was done on 4025 between the ages of 40-74. They wanted to see how diet was linked to skin aging.
In one particular study, with a group of 13 patients, they introduced a higher linoleic acid diet to a group of women who had drier, mature atrophied skin. This data comes from the First National Health and Nutritional Examination Survey.
The group took a fish oil supplement for three months and they also were induced to UVB rays.
They wanted to see what would happen to their skin.
What they found was that the group was less likely to experience UVB induced sun rash as well as faster healing of the skin.
They also observed that their skin had less skin wrinkles and increased skin elasticity.
There is another study that a group of women took supplements of Vitamin A, C, E Pycnogenol, and Primrose oil, it showed that after being exposed to UV B rays, their skin showed less inflammation and increased elasticity.
**PRO TIPS are in the video***
Vitamin F Skin Care Products:
If you would also like to supplement your diet and your dry cracked skin needs immediate attention, here are some products that contain ingredients with a high amount of these essential fatty acids.
**Please note that if you have OILY skin that is dry because of using acne control products, your problem may not be that your skin is lacking vitamin f but that you need more water in your skin, once the hydration levels increase, the oils will return to the skin. Otherwise, your skin may break out.
There are different levels of moisturizers for different types of skin:
Best Types of Moisturizers for OILY SKIN
Best Dry Skin Moisturizer for Face
Best Peptides for Skin- Best Peptides for Anti Aging

Best Peptides for Skin- Best Peptides for Anti Aging
Best Peptides for Anti Aging:
Best peptides for skin- Best Peptides for Anti Aging are broken down into several different categories for ease of reading.
Best peptides for skin depends on what specific skin care concern you are looking to address.
Peptides and your skin. Peptides are basically long chains of amino acids that are linked together by peptide bond. Usually more than 20. Peptides are larger in size and cannot get passed the skin barrier.
– 2~50 molecules are considered to be peptides
-50 or more are considered protein
Oligopeptides- Best Peptides for Anti Aging:
When reading labels that have peptides, the best types of peptides for anti aging are oligopeptides. These are basically small chains of peptides. These are usually considered 2-30 number of amino acids.
For example, when you come across words such as dipeptide (2 ), tripeptide (3), you know these are oligopeptides.
Oligopeptides are considered the best peptides for anti aging because they are small enough to get passed the skins barrier.
Oligopeptides can help with moisturizing drier skin, skin regeneration, and can be an anti inflammatory.
How oligopeptides work in the skin is they work as messengers in the skin to send a direct “task” to the skins cells or telomeres.
Peptides for Wrinkles:
There are certain types of peptides that can help with wrinkles in that they help stimulate the fibroblasts to create new collagen and elastin. Because they are smaller in size, they are able to penetrate the skins barrier.
Pentapeptides are peptides are commonly found in anti aging skin care products such as palmitoyl pentapeptide-4 , Palmitoyl Tripeptide (Matrixl 3000).
More about these peptides here:
Anti Aging Tips: Advanced Anti Aging Ingredients That Work
ANTI-AGING for Wrinkles Around the Eyes
These help more with wrinkle reduction so if you already have existing wrinkles or fine lines, these are helpful because not only does it stimulate collagen and elastin production, it also helps increase the level of hyaluronic acid in the skin. This can help plump up the skin which can minimize the existing fine lines and wrinkles.
This is basically a fatty acid + five amino acids to work in the lower levels of your skin.
Hexapeptide (trade name SYN AKE) 6 amino acids . This peptides are “signaling peptides”. this as “botox in a jar or botox The claim is that it works similarly to botox where it “freezes the muscle”. The signaling peptides are said to reduce transmission signals between the nerves and the muscles.
This is a synthetic peptide that is said to be a protein fragment of the venom of the poisonous Malaysian Temple Viper snake. It is said that this peptide helps relax the muscle.
Personally, I have tried several anti aging skin care creams that contained this specific peptide, and I did not find any significant changes in my skin.
Copper Peptides: also help with reducing inflammation, increasing collagen and elastin production, can serve as an antioxidant, and help heal the skin. **Please note that those who are sensitive to copper may want to test patch first. These type of peptides basically have trace elements of copper attached to the amino acids.
Hexapeptide-8 (trade name Argireline)- can also be found under Acetyl Hexapeptide-8-this also helps relax the skin. The beauty industry sometimes refers to these peptides as “botox in a bottle or botox in a jar”. This peptide is also said to help the skin have increased hydration, especially when linked to a humectant such as hyaluronic acid. It also may assist with collagen production and and help with dynamic wrinkles.
Best Peptide Cream for Anti Aging?
I don’t know if there is any one size fits all best peptide cream for anti aging. Everyone has different skin types and everyone uses different anti aging skin care products.
This peptide cream for anti aging has many of the peptides mentioned as well as a good amount of humectants and pre/probiotics for the skins microbiome.
**Please be aware that for those who tend to break out easily or tend to have oilier skin, this may not be the best peptide cream for anti aging and wrinkles.
You can still get the best peptides for anti aging in a lighter formulation or a completely different formulation. These are mentioned in the video.
This peptide cream is called the Expert Lifting Cream by Biotoc and has several different peptides that are higher on the ingredients list. Typically, you will see some of the peptides on the lower end of the ingredients list.
This product is from the a Korean Advanced Skin Care company.
This peptide lifting cream has the following peptides:
-Copper Peptides-aid in healing the skin and promoting collagen and elastin
-Palmitoyl Pentapeptide -4 – stimulates fibroblast to create collagen and elastin in the skin.
– Acetyl Hexapeptide-8 – Helps relax facial muscles (botox in a jar)
-Lactobacillus- Prebiotic -helps increase hydration on the skin
Please note that this is also formulated to be used in conjunction the the Biotoc microneedling pen and their 3x cross linked serum.
This serum has an antioxidant called Astaxanthin which is 6000x more stronger than Vitamin C and more stable than vitamin C. It actually increases its antioxidant activity when exposed to blue and red light.
Source: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S1878029615002613
**Please also note that when using peptides, depending on what type of peptide, they are not recommended to be used with L-AscorbicAcid and / or AHAs. Please refer to your skin care professional when contemplating mixing skin care products to avoid skin reactions and neutralizing ingredients efficacy.

What’s Better than Vitamin C for skin?
What’s better than Vitamin C for skin?
What’s better than Vitamin C? Microneedling vs Dermarolling with Astaxanthin – Biotoc Nanopen Review are the topics we will discussing in this blog post. Although Vitamin C is a highly touted antioxidant both for taking orally and applying topically.
Vitamin C is one of this most effective antioxidants for helping to neutralizing free radicals BOTH for inflammation related diseases as well as helping to even out skin tone and to help fight the aging of the skin .
The challenge with vitamin C is that it is highly oxidative and it is very difficult to keep it stable especially when applied on the skin.
So, what’s better than Vitamin C, is there any antioxidant ingredient that has MORE if not equal to the antioxidant benefits of Vitamin C AND more stable than vitamin c ?
Yes. There are clinical studies that discuss this antioxidant.
What’s Better than Vitamin C for skin?
ASTAXANTHIN: the KING OF ANTIOXIDANTS:
Astaxanthin is nicknamed “the king of antioxidants”. According to a article published in the Articles of Procedia of Environmental Sciences (Volume 28, 2015 , pp 399-405).
Astaxanthin is:
-6000x stronger than Vitamin C
-800x stronger then Coenzyme Q10
-75x stronger than Alpha Lipoic Acid
This carotenoid comes from microalgae that also gives wild salmon, krill, shrimp, plants, lobster and other seafood it’s orange/red color.
Research has shown that Astaxanthin can absorb more free radicals than any other antioxidant.
Astaxanthin can also be taken as a supplement and has show to help with reducing muscle damage from exercise and speeding up recovery, to help with macular degeneration, and even helping with cancer.
ASTAXANTHIN BENEFITS ON THE SKIN:
When Astaxanthin is applied on the skin, the benefits shows to help heal sunburn faster, reducing wrinkles and inflammation of the skin which helps to reduce fine lines and wrinkles.
According to one article, when the microalgae was under normal light conditions, not much was produced. However, when the microalgae was exposed to UV light and BLUE light, the amount of carotenoid produced by the microalgae increased 8 fold as compared to being exposed to UV light and red light which then in the control group, increased 2 fold.
So unlike, vitamin c, which seems to break down very quickly when exposed to light, Astaxanthin, seems to be more stable when exposed to certain types of light.
There are skin care products that have Astaxanthin and I have clients who are using this serum along with Microneedling to increase the penetration of this ingredient.
Microneedling vs Dermarolling:
Both microneedling and dermarolling create tiny pricks on the surface of the skin to create micro wounds in the skin. This also helps increase product penetration as well as stimulating the skin to create new collagen and elastin.
Microneedling tends to be more precise vs dermarolling because it doesn’t roll at an angle but stamps very, very quickly.
Dermarollers usually have less needles per area than a microneedling pen.
The microneedling pen has almost no chance of infection because the top part of the pen that has needles comes in a one time use package that is sterilized.
The dermaroller (especially one that is used at home) is not sterile. It can be cleaned but unless you have an medical autoclave, it is almost impossible to keep it sterile and thus more likely for an infection to occur.
BIOTOC NANOPEN PRO: USING ASTAXANTHIN WITH MICRONEEDLING:
Biotoc is a Korean Based Advanced Skin Care Technology company that has their own research and development department.
The Biotoc Nanopen PRO was designed to help increase penetration for some of their skin care products.
The Biotoc Nanopen PRO comes with individually wrapped gas sterilized needle tip that contains 64 needles . The diameter of each tip is less than 80 nanometers (1/1000 less than a strand of hair) so the puncture wound is so small that the infection rate is virtually none.
The Biotoc 3x Crosslink Ampoule works well with the Biotoc Nanopen Pro.
The stamping of the needles are so fast that it does not hurt and it feels very similar to a cat licking your skin.
Afterwards, the skin will feel slightly tingly.
The Biotoc 3xCross-link Ampoule features a cross link hyaluronic acid and three skin tightening ingredients as well as ingredients such as Astaxanthin for hyperpigmentation and anti aging for the skin.
Here are some of the beneficial ingredients that are in this serum:
Skin Brightening Agents for Hyperpigmentation:
-Glutathione
-Astaxanthin
-Rice Ferment
-Mushroom Extract
-Licorice Root extract
Hydration Properties for dehydrated and lipid poor skin:
-3 crosslinked Hyaluronic Acid
-Lactobacillus soybean ferment (polyglumatic acid-that is 10x more powerful that hyaluronic acid but forms a hydration film over the skin)
-Capryilic Triglyceride
-Arginine-boosts hydration
-Centella Asiatica Extract
Collagen Building Ingredients:
-Proline
-Arginine
-Carnosine-Anti-glycation properties/anti inflammatory (glycation causes fine lines and wrinkles)

-living in an arid climate (ie Arizona, Utah, Nevada, some parts of Australia, ,etc)
-or just very very dry skin
then your moisturizers need more of these ingredients to help soothe dry skin.
The best moisturizer for for dry mature skin will have a combination of humectants, emollients and occlusives but may have more ingredients in the emollient and occlusive category since dry skin lacks lipids.
Moisturizer for Mature Skin:
Moisturizers for mature skin may have the following to help bring moisture to the skin such as:
-glycerin
-hyaluronic Acid
-sodium PCA
-urea
-panthenol
-honey
-sorbitol
-propylene Glycol
-butylene Glycol
These can all be beneficial to your skin but if your skin is really lacking lipids, especially those of you have cracked, dry skin such as eczema /psoriasis.
Emollients and occlusive agents can really help lipid poor skin. These ingredients helps improve skin texture such as increasing smoothness, softness , and suppleness.
It also helps protect our skin from the environment, helps with eicosanoid production (fatty acid production) and membrane fluidity.
Examples of emollients listed commonly in the ingredients lists of moisturizers:
-ceramides
-cholesterol
-fatty acids
-fatty alcohol
Dry skin can benefit more from fatty emollients such as:
-castor oil
-jojoba oil
-sunflower oil
-octyl stearate
-propylene glycol
How to Treat Dry Skin in Dry weather:
Dry skin also needs occlusive agents to help prevent moisture loss.
Ingredients that have:
-plant based waxes
-wax esters
-phospholipids such as lecithin
-Caprylic Triglyceride (combination of coconut oil and glycerin) (Hydrocarbon)
-Squalene-emollient and occlusive agent
There are also less expensive occlusive agents that are used in the more common drug store moisturizer and even some expensive department store brands.
Such as:
-Paraffin (can be under different names)
-petroleum/petrolatum
-mineral oil
***The downsides to these is that some of these can have an odor, can feel greasy on the skin and will not absorb, and can clog pores for some skin types.
The best dry skin moisturizer for face will have a higher percentage of emollient and occlusive agents that can help restore /replace fatty acids to the skin.
Here are some EXAMPLES of the different levels of the best dry skin moisturizers .
Level 1 Lotion:
This typically will be the lightest texture and the highest water content of the different types of dry skin moisturizer for face.
In this example, this would be considered a lotion or a cream gel.
The ingredients list shows that silicone is the most used for occlusives agents and oils are further down on the list so skin types that break out more from oils may do better with this type of a lotion for their skin.
Level 2 Cream:
Creams have a good balance of humectants, emollients and some occlusive agents.
Creams have broader categorization. The product could be described as a medium weight cream to a heavy weight cream.
Here are some examples of creams for dry skin:
Md Dermaceutical Overnight Repair Cream: medium weight moisturizer that has a good blends of humectants such as glycerin, HA, and Aloe Vera gel .
It also uses Sunflower oil . Sunflower oil is high in vitamin E which helps when used with vitamin C. It is a great emollient that is high in Omega-3,6, and 9 which helps with inflammation and helps reduce the signs of aging with consistent use.
It also has jojoba oil and squalene to help restore the natural fatty acids in the skin.
This is a great anti aging moisturizer that does NOT inflame the skin.
Cerave Moisturizing Cream: this cream is formulated for very dry, lipid poor skin. The second ingredients is a fatty alcohol. It has a blend of ceramides, cholesterol and the occlusive agent is petroleum. Although it says on the label that this is for normal to dry skin, I would not recommend for normal skin unless it was for dry hands.
This is NOT RECOMMENDED for break out prone skin.
The ingredients that draw moisture to the skin are:
-glycerin
-aloe vera gel
-HA
Cream for Dry Break out Prone Skin: If your skin is more sensitive to break outs and prefer a cream that does NOT have any occlusive agents that tend to be comedogenic, this cream has a good balance of humectants and emollients.
It is also formulated with a pH that is favorable to skin that is inflamed. It was created for post treatments such as laser, post peel, post surgical and also good to use when using Retin A.
Level 3 Moisturizer for EXTREMELY DRY SKIN:
Some may find that lotions and even the heaviest weight cream may not be enough.
Balms and Salves have the least amount of water. This is why the texture is solids and not even close to liquid at all.
This is recommended for eczema and psoriasis.
Farmacy Honey All in one Repair Salve -first ingredients is listed as sunflower oil. Most skin care products will list water or aloe vera gel as the first ingredients.
Honey is also a soothing humectant that also has antibacterial properties.
However, this lists an emollient and occlusive agent that is high in Omega 3, 6,and 9. This is great for repelling water and keeping moisture in and high in linoleic acid which protects against bacteria and germs.
This also has castor seed oil and it seems to be an anhydrous formulation because water is not in the ingredients list.
Oils for Dry Skin:
Some people prefer using oils more than lotions, cream or salves. Naturally, if using oils, oils are emollients and occlusive agents and will soften the skin but will not add any moisture to the skin.
There is a wide array of oils that can be used as a dry skin moisturizer for face. The results will vary widely depending on the type of oil being used on the face.
Best Type of Sunscreen for Dry Skin:
A sunscreen that does not have any moisturizers will typically have a tendency to dry out the skin. BOTH chemical and mineral based sunscreens that do NOT have any moisturizers in the formulation will tend to dry out the skin.
It is best to find a sunscreen plus moisturizer for dry skin vs using a moisturizer then layering it with sunscreen. This can dilute the SPF of the sunscreen.
Dry skin does need some moisture and more lipids. The best dry skin moisturizer for face will be on skin that is exfoliated, and has some moisture on the skin, before applying.

Hydropeptide LUMAPRO C Product Review
Hydropeptide Lumapro C Product Review
*Hydropeptide Lumapro C Product Review for Hyperpigmentation is a lightweight cream based serum that has a slight scent of citrus. It was formulated to treat hyperpigmentation gently based on the ingredients list as of this writing (ingredients may change).
TEXTURE: lightweight lotion texture.
Normal-Oily Skin: Could be used as lightweight moisturizer during the summer.
Dry Skin: Could be used after a hydrating gel based serum and before applying sunscreen.
Recommended for : the treatment of age spots, uneven skin tone and as a part of any anti aging skin care regimen.
Paraben Free
Fragrance naturally derived from citrus essential oil. The essential oils are towards the bottom of the ingredient list so it will not cause any fragrance induced hyperpigmentation.
PROS:
Reservatrol Ferment Extract- known as the “wine” antioxidant. This helps with collagen IV synthesis and is an anti inflammatory. This is the 2nd ingredient.
Bellis Perennis (white daisy flower extract)- Lightening agent- Tyrosinase inhibitor-Helps prevent new pigmentation from forming and helps break apart existing hyperpigmentation. 4th ingredient
Diglucosyl Gallic Acid-
-4x more potent than vitamin C
-inhibits melanogenesis at several different levels in the skin and decreases inflammation.
Phenyethyl Resorcinol- skin safe lightener and lightens even facial hair.
Plankton Extract and Lecithin- both are tyrosinase inhibitors
Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate- fat soluble form of vitamin C, inhibits pigmentation formation and also stimulates collagen production.
HYDROPEPTIDE LUMAPRO C -ANTI AGING BENEFITS
Yeast extract, amino acids and oligopeptides safely restore the skins barrier.
Ginger root extract- helps reduce medium to in depth wrinkles and helps plump up skin. I saw the result of this on my own forehead. Some of the lines in my forehead were definitely less noticeable. This did take the full six weeks before I did notice any difference.
As mentioned before, this product does have essential oils from citrus such as orange, bergamot, tangerine, lime, lemon and grapefruit. This give the product a light clean scent. It is towards the bottom so there is no concern for developing phytophoto dermatitis from the essential oils reacting with UV exposure .
However, for those of you who prefer all things fragrance free, this may not be the product for you.
CON:
For those of you who are on a budget or at least a budget on what you are willing to spend for skincare products, this 1 ounce pump bottle (as of this writing) comes in at $148.00 US dollars.
Although this could be used for someone who has melasma (pregnancy mask), it would be more for a moisturizer during the summer to help keep pigmentation from forming.
This product has several anti inflammatory ingredients . However, the *Hydropepetide Luma Pro C may not be strong enough to actually take away all of the melasma. So if you are thinking about shelling out $148 to take away melasma, this product may not be the best option for you.
RECOMMENDED FOR:
The *Hydropeptide Luma PRO C vitamin C serum may be best for someone who has age spot or uneven skin tone but cannot tolerate L-Ascorbic Acid form of Vitamin C. This would be ideal for someone who has dry sensitive skin or rosacea prone skin (without pustules).

Best Treatment Options for Melasma
Treating Hyperpigmentation Naturally (Look for these ingredients)
This also could be ideal for someone who has normal to oily skin and would like to layer their vitamin C products and have the Hydropeptide Luma Pro C PRO C vitamin C serum be their lightweight moisturizer.
Hydropeptide Lumapro C Product Review BEFORE AND AFTER:
Although I don’t have photos, you can see in the video, my skin has a glow and a more even skin tone. If you go back 6 weeks prior in the youtube videos, I have a brighter complexion. It is not drastic , however it did improve my overall skin tone.
My Skin Care Routine for Hyperpigmentation
Again, someone with melasma, probably would not see enough difference to merit the $148 price tag.
